Busy weekend!

Whhooo!
Sweet relief. So Thursday was full of baking. And decorating. And stress. And fun. And then more stress. I was up 'til 4 am getting this cake together (I hate fondant. For serious.) with my step-mom, and we had to leave at 8 am to get to Tacoma for the Living Proof Live events that she helped plan. She was the city coordinator for the Beth Moore event here, so it was A LOT of planning and organizing and running, and then by Saturday at 1 pm it was over...talk about an abrupt ending. At about 3 am, when the fondant was collapsing and tearing from the weight, I was about ready to throw in the towel and just make more cupcakes and call it good. But we made it work.

Voila! It was 7 layers, espresso flavored cake with Nutella and toasted hazelnuts between each layer. I heard it was good (I gave up sugar for lent, so I stayed strong and didn't even try a crumb!) and it smelled amazing. I mean, how can you go wrong with Nutella?! The lady I gave it to was really surprised and happy, and unfortunately there wasn't much time to celebrate with the event going on, but at least she liked it!

Then Sunday my mom and I went to the St. Patty's Day Dash that happens annually in Seattle. It's a 5k, and we run it every year. This time we walked, because my mom no longer has cartilage in her knees. :( Actually, we were a little late to the run, and it was pouring rain-- typical-- so we decided just to join in the party. :) There were booths set around, and then an indoor beer garden. SO fun! I ended up running into a fellow ASU alum that I knew from the track team (thanks freshman roomie!) who was responsible for an epic pyramid of empty cups. We laughed about properly representing ASU, of course.

Our costumes rocked. We had the green eyelashes, Irish knit caps, necklaces (complete with little shot-glass mugs on them, green nail polish, and of course, our green shirts.
And green beer! It was a little early, but we gotta represent the Irish heritage. ;)

Overall, a great, but full weekend! And now I have a week of homework...

haha. i was just thinking how the heck you got the cup to look all crackly and old, but then realized all your pictures look that way so i thought maybe you had a special camera option for that...but THEN i saw your background and realized none of it was necessarily intentional, and most importantly, that your life isn't ACTUALLY covered in old cracks...just your blog. :)

Haha Krystal, thanks, no, my life ISN'T all covered in old cracks :) Although I'm sure one could make an interesting analogy out of that...
